Almost every smartphone owner on the planet uses their Pocket PC to take pictures, and probably most of us use the built-in camera app. It's convenient, it's already there, and on most, if not all, phones you can get to it directly from a shortcut on the lock screen. But for a few bucks, you can greatly improve capabilities and even image quality with a camera app like the recently released Obscura 4.
"I've been using Obscura 4 for a few months and the small design details have consistently impressed me," tech and culture blogger and Obscura fan Nick Heer writes on his Pixel Envy blog, "but I want to point out the smooth transitions between screens and modes These animations never get in the way, and they make the whole app feel fluid and lively."
Third-party camera apps offer two advantages over typical native apps, such as the iPhone's camera app. They provide more control and can take better quality photos, even if you only use the same hardware cameras in your phone. They can offer manual control of settings that are usually automatic only and can make it much easier to access those settings on the fly.
