The company announced the expansion on Wednesday, noting that more online purchases have continued to increase as users have spent more time at home over the past year and a half. According to ZDNet, American Express first introduced digital receipts in February, noting that the system would provide more information about purchases to help consumers avoid confusing fees.
The idea behind digital receipts, according to Ramesh Devaraj, vice president of global trade processing and policy at American Express, is to give consumers a laundry list of information about their purchases.
"We know our customers value transparency and trust us to introduce new products and services that make their lives easier," Devaraj wrote in the announcement. "With this in mind, we rolled out digital receipts with a select group of merchants earlier this year and are excited to continue developing the product … with Amazon."
