If your internet connection seems slow, the first step is often to compare it with an internet speed test. Doing this can give you a fairly accurate indication of how much bandwidth is available to you right now.

Do internet speed tests REALLY measure your internet speed?
Internet speed tests are good for proving that you are, or are not, getting the bandwidth from your ISP that you are paying for. They can also help determine if bandwidth throttling is something your ISP deals with. Also, I like to use a speed test site just to set expectations when I'm in a hotel or using another public Wi-Fi network.
Test your bandwidth using one or more of these free sites, then compare that information to the high-speed plan you signed up for. I've tested all of these sites, and occasionally add more to this list as I find them.
Testing your internet speed between you and your ISP is the best way to go if you plan to argue with your ISP about your slow internet connection.
