The company just announced via email and blog post that the game date has been delayed to 2022, with Panic pushing the release date to early in the new year. The reason? Incorrect batteries in the finished product.
"When our first 5,000 completed Playdate units arrived at our California warehouse for 2021, we began testing some of them. We quickly became concerned that some of them weren't giving us the battery life we expected," they wrote.
"We found a number of devices with batteries so dead that the Playdate couldn't be turned on at all – and couldn't be charged."
