I put away laptops a long time ago. For years I have used a desktop Mac with an iPad. But after installing a friend's M1 MacBook Air, I'm going all-in on MacBook Pros when they hit the world. For quite some time, the iPad has been far superior to all MacBooks, but now the Mac has caught up. Also, the iPad has some limitations that may never be fixed.
These MacBooks are so fast and powerful, with such long battery life, that they're finally as good as the iPad.
In 2019, I tried the then new 16-inch MacBook Pro. It got hot, the fans cranked up constantly, and it felt like ancient technology next to my quiet, cool 2018 iPad Pro 12.9-inch. I returned the Mac thinking that was it. My 2010 iMac (upgraded with a couple of SSDs) was still fine, and when Apple added the Magic Keyboard with trackpad to the iPad, I had a more than viable laptop.
